Email Marketing Manager
Beverly Hills, CA or Provo, Utah

Spark Networks is searching for a Email Marketing Manager to oversee all aspects of email marketing. This person will develop targeted CRM campaigns with sound measurement to monitor and report on effectiveness, leading to the continuous improvement of experience, business results, optimized campaign scheduling, and deeper customer relationships.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute a strategy to maximize revenue through email communication.
  • Champion continuous advancement of Spark Networks’ email capabilities (targeting, personalization, tracking, etc.).
  • Set up and monitor all email marketing launches via email service providers (ESPs) such as Yesmail.
  • Work with external and internal creative resources to develop effective designs for all emails and supporting landing experiences.
  • Report on performance, bounces, complaint rate of all emails sent.
  • Synthesize and prioritize input and requests from all internal stakeholders, users and partners to develop business requirements, product specifications, features and functionality, release schedules, implementation choices and analytics to measure effectiveness.
  • Develop strategic data-driven customer email programs and merchandising framework, including plan calendar tied to P&L.
  • Define strategic direction and market requirements for new features and products.
  • Develop a business case (including ROI) and financial justification for new service offerings and enhancements.  
  • Manage and optimize the design, content, targeting & messaging of email communications.
  • Utilize aggressive testing to maximize campaign performance and isolated campaign driver effectiveness.
  • Work with business development and marketing teams on promotions and overarching/multi-media campaigns.
  • Conduct research and competitive analysis (market size, competitive benchmarks, trends, opportunities, customer needs and expectations).
  • Set benchmarks and establish analytics for key performance criteria.
  • Assist in the development of the overall marketing plan and how email marketing fits within that plan.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • BS/BA (MBA preferred) or equivalent, plus 3 years or more experience in product management or product marketing for software or online information products.
  • Solid knowledge of internet technology and applications, including a broad understanding of email and database marketing infrastructures and the technologies required.
  • Background in online based marketing operations with an understanding of web analytics and a heavy emphasis on email list marketing, delivery, database marketing and analytics.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ESPs (email service providers) — (Dartmail, e-Dialog, Yesmail, CheetahMail, ExactTarget, Blue Hornet, Sky List, Double-click etc.)
  • Familiarity with campaign management tools.
  • Strong experience with email distribution and deliverability issues, user state-based messaging and online ads.
  • Experience developing segmentation strategies and customer touch point plans.
  • Experience in leading successful email personalization strategies and customer modeling a strong plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience creating and presenting campaign reports including ROI, conversion rates, etc.
  • Demonstrated success in bringing products to market for the practitioner, institutional, and/or corporate markets.
  • Expertise in development of marketing assets and collaborating with members from creative and marketing teams.
  • Must be able to think strategically about customer needs, product designs, and product positioning.
  • Experience with subscription-based marketing (magazines, ISP's, cable, wireless, sports tickets, etc.) a plus.
  • Possess a unique balance of disciplined strategic thinking, creative passion, and a willingness to be hands-on.
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to directly communicate and participate in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational, verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
